We Spoke : Looping is a production focusing on the creative use of repetition in music. Two important composers are set side by side and zoom into the very subtle sound changes created by repetition. Two early pieces by Steve Reich – a true American icon of New Music – use repetition structually to create complex textures with extremely simple material; mainly one rhythmic pattern. Fritz Hauser – composer and drummer from Basel who explores the drumming tradition from his home city in creative ways – applies constant but extremely slow changes to the musical material, opening the ears to a richness in sound to which we rarely pay attention.
