We Spoke: Table

We Spoke: Table brings together works that explore connections between sound, movement, and silence in three pieces that use no traditional musical instruments. With silent movements and noisy immobility, the works play with the habits, reflexes and conventions of music making and performer communication. The event features tounge dancing, conceptual noise, domestic grooves, coffee making and unspoken narratives.

Christian Kesten: Staging (Demierre)

Next performances:

16 April 2012, Kings Place, London, 20h

The Programme:

“Zunge Lösen” by Christian Kesten is a silent ode to the organ of speech. The tongue is staged in the mouth as a shy and curious animal. Suspense and cheeky smiles expected.

Vidéo filmed in ‘Studios Curtule’, Vufflens-le-Château, January 2011

“Distance Learning” by John Lely deals with the phyiscs. Both the notion of distance and the phisical limits of the performers are demonstrated.

Vidéo tournée au Cabaret Voltaire, Zürich, 27 Janvier 2011

“Living Room Music” by John Cage is a classic. Four musicians are sitting in a living room and start to tap on whatever happens to be under their hands. Here in a fully staged version.

“Noisy Interval” by Serge Vuille reverses the function of a concert interval by offering a few minutes of noise in the middle of an otherwise quiet and silent concert. As a Work in Progress, a new version of the piece will be presented for each performance.

“Musique de Table ou La Troïka s’Ennuie” by Jacques Demierre.
Three musicians are sitting around a table carefully chosen for its sonic potential. They are not telling a story per se, but one can tell by their actions and sometimes surprising reactions that they are close and something is going on. The piece sets people in relation and discussion in an abstract way, without a word. This staging was been first performed at the Amplitudes Festival (CH) in April 2009.
