Fourfortytwo Agency and We Spoke: New Music Company present the JUNK BAND, an energetic and engaging percussion installation bringing adults and children together in public spaces.
JUNK BAND! is a massive, open-air drum kit of sorts, made of household junk and recycled items. A huge, colourful, eye-catching sculpture in a public space, inviting young and old to bash, explore and create music, using wooden spoons. With We Spoke percussion quartet, we also give 20-minute lively, dynamic and engaging shows that show the potential of this sculptured scrap and inspire passing audiences to try it out for themselves, guided and encouraged by the percussionist on hand at all times.
The recycled materials used in the sculpture include a range of diverse materials such as plastic buckets, helium bottles, bits of wood, newspaper, cookware, waste bins, computer
casing, air conditioning duct pipe, old clothes, a rotary washing line, cardboard boxes, flower pots, polystyrene, children’s toys, a megaphone and more. You’d be amazed at the brightness and loudness of some of these materials when played properly. It really packs a punch.
